Characterization by Minu Jugjali ('25)

She wakes up early in the morning before everyone else wakes up. She takes a shower and does worship. She cleans her apartment and the stairs. She makes breakfast for her family. She packs her husband’s lunch in a bag. Then, she does laundry. When her daughter wakes up, she gives her breakfast. When the daughter is leaving the house for college, she makes sure that her daughter has everything, such as her college ID, wallet, keys, and if it’s a rainy or cloudy day, then she tells her to take an umbrella. She reminds her daughter to eat everything on time. “Don’t be looking at the price while choosing food,” she tells her. After her daughter is out of the house, she runs for ten to fifteen minutes on the treadmill. After that she makes a fast breakfast for herself: oatmeal or juice using different fruits or honey water with cake rush, or pasta or even noodles/ramen. At the same time, she makes curry to take to her workplace as her lunch. She makes different curries, for example, when she makes potato with dried mushrooms, it needs oil, ginger, garlic, turmeric, potato, mushroom, green chili, onions, tomato, salt, and water. She also adds a type of masala. It’s a typical Nepalese curry and it tastes good: it’s soft and a little chewy because of the dried mushrooms. It is pale yellow. When she makes curry, she doesn’t make it only for her; she makes enough for her son and daughter-in-law for their lunch as well. She then enjoys her breakfast while watching tik tok. She notices the time and realizes it’s already time for her to go to work. She cleans the dishes fast. But sometimes, she leaves them like that and her daughter-in-law does them. Then, she gets ready and packs her curry, and gets ready to go to work. Before she leaves for work, she makes sure to remind her daughter-in-law to eat and if her son is at home then she reminds him as well. She works for ten hours a day. When she returns home, dinner will be ready for her son and daughter-in-law. When she gets in the house, she gets fresh and heats the dinner for her and her husband because they usually come home around the same time. Before they have dinner, they ask other family members whether or not they had their dinner. If not then they ask them to join them for dinner, or else they eat the dinner just the two of them.
